I love learning! I have a deep curiosity about life and a sense of discovery
that has been punctuated by “aha” moments - those priceless experiences
that come from connecting head to heart.
My desire to learn was fueled while attending Michigan State University
where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Cultural Anthropology,
an M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling and an M.A. in Marriage & Family
Therapy. I continued my studies at the Michigan School of Professional
Psychology, earning a Psy.S. in Clinical and Humanistic Psychology and
Education. It was here that I had the privilege of studying with Dr. Clark
Moustakas, who along with Carl Rogers & Abraham Maslow, established the
field of Humanistic Psychology – not to be confused with Humanism -
within the American Psychological Association.
Humanistic Psychology opened psychological treatment to the transpersonal
dimension of personal growth and development. So inspired, I went on to earn
a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Union Institute & University where I
wrote my dissertation on psychology and energy healing.
In the work arena, I spent fifteen years at a mental health agency initially
helping people with developmental disabilities and mental illness and then in
the emergency room providing diagnostic evaluations and crisis counseling to adults & children in the midst of grief and trauma. After receiving my Ph.D., I taught at Hope College as a Visiting Professor of Psychology, authored a supplemental text in Abnormal Psychology for Prentice-Hall, and eventually opened a private practice.
I have been involved in a variety of personal studies over the years that focused on spiritual development, meditation and energy healing - all of which have influenced my work as a therapist. My clinical approach is soul-centered within a psychodynamic framework. Energy Psychology and principles of Energy Medicine are the underpinnings of my work.
My credentials include:
• Licensed Clinical Psychologist (State of Michigan)
• Diplomate, Comprehensive Energy Psychology
• Eden Energy Medicine Advanced Practitioner, Teacher of Eden Energy Medicine Level I Fundamentals and Guest Faculty EEM Level 2 Certification Training at the Chicago Regional Center
• Teacher & Practitioner, International Network of Energy Healing (Headquarters in England)
• ACEP Consultant for certification process
• Associate Member, Healing Touch Professional Association
On a light note, I enjoyed a stint in the Peace Corps (Colombia, South America), but my greatest joy was in graduate school when, at age 40, I passed the audition to become a member of the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band! I marched for two years (drum line) and continue to hold the distinction of being the oldest student...ever...to march in the MSU band!
